cowboy

in the deep, deep woods.

wood london

bethan laura wood has an interesting idea with her stain teacups. the interior surface of the cup is treated to stain in predetermined places. the more the cups are used, the more the pattern is revealed. over time they will build up an individual pattern dependent on the users personal way of drinking tea. clever!

no squirrel sandwich today

i personally know someone who was in the business of trading fried squirrel sandwiches for peanut butter sandwiches in his school lunchroom. in his large farming family, you ate what you shot in the woods and when you were a grade schooler, this meant lots of squirrel and rabbit. this squirrel has planned a different kind of lunchtime routine. this squrrel has an announcement. there will be no squirrel sandwich today.

again, this is sparkly in person. this also has a tiny bit of interesting history regarding the little blue electrical bit in the foreground. i grabbed a handful of these that were being replaced at the studio where my husband often works. turns out, they are from the console he used to record purple rain. perhaps this one should be called the squirrel formerly known as sandwich.

lelia wescott's broken heart

i have had, as you see here, a very difficult time photographing lelia's broken heart. this is the most sparkly lamp i have made and it somehow comes off as dull. the deer and cupie are shiny, the glass ampoule of sutures is shiny, the spots on one of the dice are shiny, the pyrite (fools gold) is shiny.... in any event, you will just have to imagine it sparkling as you look.

michele oka doner

there is the BEST article in the new york social diary featuring the home of michele oka doner. her live/work space is absolutely incredible. i had to copy the whole thing and save it so i can pour over and over it. what a fantastic body of work she continues to create in that beautiful studio. i can not imagine anything better.

beth cavener stitcher

olympia

seven year cycle

her statement reads in part, "i want to pry at those uncomfortable, awkward edges between animal and human. the figures are feral and uneasy, expressing frustration for the human tendency towards cruelty and lack of understanding. entangled in their own internal and external struggles, the figures are engaged with the subjects of fear, apathy, violence and powerlessness." i think she succeeds. i want to like it, but i feel uncomfortable. beth cavener stitcher
