Empiric has the most beautifully restored Deco and mid century furniture around and the best lamps we have ever seen. Also lots of sexy, sturdy steel and metal office furniture all set in a whimsical atmosphere that looks like an old apothecary.
Empiric makes a lot of great furniture as well. Many of the pieces feel truly vintage, yet everything can be customized to fit your needs. There is a clutter to the store that we would usually loathe, but every last detail seems important to the vibe, and most everything we touch is like a long lost friend waiting to come home with us... “

sarah cihat

you might recognize the name sarah cihat from her line of rehabilitated dishware (below), but what i am loving even more is her hand cast porcelian work called dirt (above). the bowl with chain strikes my fancy in particular.

di overton of designers block uk and owner/designer of soon to be launched ghost furniture recently featured the design house based upon. these two brothers create beautiful surfaces with liquid metal, semi-precious resins and coloured laquers. the slide shows on their website are absolutely divine and incredibly inspiring.

i am really feeling the sculpture lately. magdalena abakanowicz has a website full of beautiful, inspiring sculpture and an interesting biography. it is so inspiring to see such large bodies of work and giant installations. it makes me feel that i can surely create something small if another is capable of creating things so large.

carol todaro

i like these giant drawings of wings by carol todaro. she is also a book artist who gives workshops. it seems she does not have a website... i will have to make do with the drawing.

bethan laura wood has an interesting idea with her stain teacups. the interior surface of the cup is treated to stain in predetermined places. the more the cups are used, the more the pattern is revealed. over time they will build up an individual pattern dependent on the users personal way of drinking tea. clever!

no squirrel sandwich today

i personally know someone who was in the business of trading fried squirrel sandwiches for peanut butter sandwiches in his school lunchroom. in his large farming family, you ate what you shot in the woods and when you were a grade schooler, this meant lots of squirrel and rabbit. this squirrel has planned a different kind of lunchtime routine. this squrrel has an announcement. there will be no squirrel sandwich today.




again, this is sparkly in person. this also has a tiny bit of interesting history regarding the little blue electrical bit in the foreground. i grabbed a handful of these that were being replaced at the studio where my husband often works. turns out, they are from the console he used to record purple rain. perhaps this one should be called the squirrel formerly known as sandwich.
